Fridge Organization

For about four years we had endured a sad, small, leaky fridge that destroyed our newly renovated flooring in our kitchen but I am thrilled to say those sad days are gone and we are now enjoying this luxurious Samsung Energy Star fridge! We have absolutely loved the upgrade and I honestly can say it gave our entire kitchen a complete facelift. It is truly amazing how one little upgrade can make such a dramatic change in a space and it is honestly worth every penny.

Not only does it change the way the kitchen looks but the upgrade changed the way we function, shop, organize and eat throughout the week. We now have dependable space for storage and I can honestly say we have a fraction of the food waste that we used to. I am going to give you some tips and tricks on how to decrease your food waste, be able to see everything in your fridge and actually help keep you on budget with groceries!

One way to dramatically decrease your food waste is by meal planning! Every week we decide what dinners we are going to make for the week and make sure we have the ingredients in the fridge and pantry already or add them to the grocery list. This helps stay on budget by only purchasing the items needed and keeps your grocery shop small and on budget. We typically pack the kids' school lunches quite similarly daily exchanging the fruit with whatever is on sale and in season at the current time so it keeps the grocery list consistent throughout the weeks. Planning out your meal helps you keep your healthy eating and fitness goals on track as well as your grocery budget and shopping list!

Another way to decrease food waste and stay on budget is to unpack your groceries and I mean UNPACK and unbox! We have done so much better when making sure we eat all that's in our fridge by being able to see it. Which means investing in some clear containers and bowls to make this happen.

One of my favourite things is unpacking after a big grocery shop, organizing the kitchen and making it look clean and organized - which also helps my mental health and our food consumption. Being able to see the healthy food and having it in clear eyesight helps you make healthier food choices throughout the day allowing you to quickly reach for available healthy items rather than the junk food in the pantry.

I absolutely love keeping my fridge clean and organized using those storage tools and I could not recommend them more! If you are going into the New Year season with goals and a budget I highly recommend meal planning, meal prepping and grocery store hauls instead of hiding your food creating opportunities for poor food decisions. Pre-chop some veggies and keep them in clear containers, make your food look pretty and delicious so you reach for it more often. Keeping things visible also helps you to eat what is already in your fridge - keeping your grocery budget in check and saving money on food.
